THE METIS ACADEMY
STUDY THE STRUCTURE OF A STORY’S SOUL
“It is not merely to master the story that we illuminate its divine architecture. It is in pursuit of better fulfilling our duty to delight in the many stories of the many worlds. Ours is a science born of elation.” -I & P Story Works Charter
The Metis Academy prepares new recruits for story terraformation work and sharpens the skills of existing IP architects. Written by the founders of our Works and inventors of the Metis Measure itself, I. & P. routinely update the Academy’s content. This science is part of the living universe: as the world changes, so do the laws governing its operation. As we travel through the multiverse, different natural laws apply. Crew members are encouraged to review Academy archives routinely to maintain coherent resonance with our current physics.
Academy content is broken into two categories: Metis Metrics and Daedalus Protocols.
METIS METRICS
The science, art, and methodology behind I&P Story Works. Learn the how and why of what makes IP media function. Learn how people, companies, and even cultural concepts can all be quantified through six different categories.
DAEDALUS PROTOCOLS
The meat of our work and what the measure unlocks. The Daedalus Protocols have us flying across the multiverse, not only tracking ongoing projects but salvaging wrecks, auditing successes, and identifying worthwhile prospects for development.
THE METIS MEASURE METRICS
How distinctly a property resonates emotionally with audiences and the psychodynamics behind the scenes driving content consumption. Highly distinct signatures will need to be consistent and discord will be especially disruptive.
How familiar the general public is with the property and where that awareness is (or is not) concentrated. Properties with high awareness tend to be the most valuable, but they also run the risk of being oversaturated or becoming “the new standard.”
How flexible the property and its core audience are with the characters, elements, and structure of the story. High mutability allows for a lot of creativity in adaptation, but sacrifices the potential appeal of familiarity and narrative continuity.
How important the world of the property is to its audiences and the coherence of the world. High lore gravity makes properties especially important but it also restricts the flight path of different projects. Navigating high-gravity environments is high stakes.
